Servings: 1 tall glass (32 ounces)
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cold water chilled
  • 2 cups ice cubes about 12 standard cubes
  • 1 lemon half juiced (about 2 tablespoons), half sliced into thin wheels
  • 1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar with "the mother"
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated fresh ginger a piece about 1 inch long
  • 1 teaspoon honey optional
  • Small pinch of fine sea salt optional
  • 2 to 3 fresh mint leaves for the top (optional)

Method

  1. Chill a tall 32-ounce glass in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  2. Peel the ginger with a spoon and grate finely until you have 1 tablespoon.
  3. Steep the grated ginger in ½ cup of the cold water in the glass for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and the honey and salt, if using.
  5. Add the remaining 3½ cups cold water and stir firmly.
  6. Fill the glass to the brim with ice and tuck the lemon wheels down the sides.
  7. Bruise the mint leaves between your palms and lay them on top, if using.
  8. Drink within 15 to 20 minutes, ideally through a straw.

Notes

This is a refreshing trend drink, not a health treatment — no weight-loss or detox claims, just a cold, sharp glass.
Raw apple cider vinegar with the mother tastes rounder than clear distilled vinegar.
Drink through a straw and rinse with plain water afterward to protect tooth enamel from the acid; wait 30 minutes before brushing.
Do not make it ahead — the ginger dulls within a few hours. Freeze lemon juice and grated ginger in 1-tablespoon cubes for a fast version.
